Flame retardants are halogen and halogen free

In many cases, products (not just flame retardants) are expected to contain no halogens. Why?

Harmful effects of halogens:

Halogen-free flame retardants include phosphorous flame retardants, inorganic flame retardants such as magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide, zinc borate, etc.

Halogenated flame retardants are the flame retardants that are widely used in plastic rubber materials at present, mainly because they are organic flame retardants with inert chemical properties, good compatibility with plastics, good flame retardants, low cost of use, and many characteristics cannot be replaced by other flame retardants.

The European Union's Rosh directive banned octabrominated and pentabrominated dioxins (carcinogens) from halogenated flame retardants, and decabrominated flame retardants are not recommended because of their controversial use.

But most halogenated flame retardants are not completely banned, and in fact it is hard to find a replacement.

As for the harm, sometimes can appear alarmist, China does not limit the use of decabrominated flame retardants.Nor is it as bad as legend has it that fire retardants are as minor to nature as they are to humans.
